About TUAI

TUAI “Towards an Understanding of Artificial Intelligence via a transparent, open and explainable perspective ” is a European HORIZON MSCA Doctoral Network project.

TUAI focus on sustainable and trustworthy ML services with potential use in smart: manufacturing, smart cities, smart healthcare and smart mobility. The scope of the research will be organised under research areas:

Time Series Analysis,

Sensor Fusion,

Federated Learning

Sustainability and Trustworthiness of the AI solutions

Objectives:

  • to train 13 creative, entrepreneurial, innovative and resilient Doctoral Candidates (DC), able to face current and future challenges in Machine Learning (ML) to support both European research space and commercial and social needs for AI based products and services. Secondments and network wide training activities will allow young researchers to expand their horizons beyond one selected field. Collaboration with commercial companies will allow DCs to face the real challenges related to ML development. Mentoring by primary and auxiliary Supervisors and support from industrial advisers from R&D departments of associated partners will help to shape unique research profiles of DCs whose doctoral theses will make a significant contribution to European science in the field of AI.
  • to raise the attractiveness and excellence of doctoral training in AI. TUAI follows on a new model of cooperation between industry and science. Each DC works on the answer to a research question important for ML development stated for given research area, and try to confirm the correctness of proposed solution on the example of commercial applications. PhD training focus both on the science side (verification of hypotheses in a real environment) and on the industry side (a new approach giving an advantage over the competition).

Project duration: October 1, 2024 - September 30, 2028 (4 years)

Total budget: 3.36 MEUR

Doctoral candidates: 13 researchers recruited for 36 months
